Join SICK as an FPGA Developer

10 september, 2025
As a Machine Vision Innovation Center, SICK Linköping develops high-performance cameras and advanced AI-powered software that drive the future of both manufacturing and logistics automation. Whether it’s helping robots pick the right item or enabling high-precision quality control with 2D and 3D vision, their solutions bring clarity, speed, and smart decision-making to complex industrial environments. With 100 passionate colleagues in Linköping – and backed by a global team of 12,000 with headquarters in Germany – they create technology that powers safer, smarter, and more efficient industries worldwide.

What SICK offer you
As an FPGA Developer at SICK Linköping, you’ll be part of an experienced team working at the heart of their 3D camera technology. The FPGA is a key component in our current and next-generation products – it’s where our most advanced image processing algorithms come to life.

You’ll join a team that values curiosity, collaboration, and technical excellence. They work with a broad and exciting tech stack, and you’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Contribute to the development of high-speed image processing in their 3D cameras
  • Collaborate with experts in FPGA, embedded systems, and hardware design
  • Participate in internal forums and knowledge-sharing initiatives across SICK globally

What you will do
In this role, you’ll work together with a small team to plan, implement, and maintain the FPGA domain of our 3D cameras. You’ll contribute to both new development and customer-driven improvements.

Your role will also include:

  • Implementing high-speed image processing algorithms in VHDL
  • Developing control and communication features in the FPGA
  • Participating in code reviews and maintaining a CI environment
  • Breaking down and planning tasks based on customer requests or internal initiatives
  • Testing and verifying your code using industry-standard tools such as Vivado and VUnit

Who we believe you are
You have a master’s degree in a relevant field, and, through your studies, you’ve gained hands-on experience with FPGA development and developed an interest in working close to the hardware. You have experience in embedded system development and are confident working with VHDL and C++. A solid grasp of mathematics is also a great advantage, as much of the work involves calculations and algorithm design.

With a proactive mindset and a collaborative spirit, you take ownership of your work and enjoy learning from others. Whether you’re early in your career or already have some experience, we’re looking for someone who’s eager to grow and make a meaningful contribution to our projects.

If you also speak German, that’s a plus as the work will include some communication with our German site.
